Experience the Philippine Dream!

Situated along the warm South China Sea, the province of La Union is home to a number of surf spots with varied levels of wave intensity and quality. One of the more reliable areas on the main island of Luzon, La Union is easily accessible and sees consistent waves from north swell from October thru March. With accommodations just yards from the beach, you are steps away from quality waves from the beach break or the predominantly righthand reef break just out front. Waves are suitable for all levels and abilities. No matter what the size of the swell, there’s a spot in LU for everyone!

San Juan is considered to be the Surfing Capital of the Northern Philippines, and is known for its consistent intermediate quality surf and two surfing seasons from July to October and November to March.

The climate in San Juan is "dry" from November to April and "wet" from May to October. The south-west monsoon brings abundant rainfall during the wet season, whereas the north-east monsoon passing over the Cordillera Mountains to the east brings the drier conditions. The average annual temperature is 27.2 °C (81.0 °F).

Besides surfing there are plenty of things to do and more than enough food options for even the pickiest eater. The budget traveler can find tasty, authentic Filipino dishes, like chicken adobo, at NakNak's Eatery, health-conscious people can get their fill of greens at SaladStoke, and coffee lovers can get a wake-me-up of cold brew at El Union Coffee. For the tourist at heart, non-surfing activities can be arranged as well such as a hike to Tangadan Falls, experience local life at the city's night market, or visit the beautiful Ma Cho Taoist Temple.

Vessel Hostel

Vessel hostel is a four level hostel composed of repurposed shipping containers stacked on top of each other. Designed by surfer architects Buji Libarnes and Nikki Dela Paz-Libarnes, Vessel Hostel is an extension of their home, located below the hostel, and a reflection of their love for classic surfing and the nostalgic lifestyle of its golden era.

It's simplicity and efficient space planning make Vessel Hostel a cozy and restful place to stay in La Union, perfect for single back packers or traveling groups.

Vessel is a multi-level hostel made of upcycled containers and cozy bunks (think Tiny House, Big Living).

There is a total of 22 beds (split into four 4-bed dorms and one 6-bed dorm).

  • Each bunk bed comes with conveniences for the modern traveler -- it's own locker with outlet inside (you may bring your own padlocks or rent / purchase from the front desk); bedsides convenience outlets, a small bedside workstation, night light, and curtains for privacy. We encourage guests to bring their own padlocks for the security of their valuables. Vessel Hostel and the management accept no liability and shall be not responsible for any loss or damage thereto.
  • Common Area / Roof deck with kitchenette and dining area (You can see the ocean and Monalisa Point surf spot from here!)

  • Surfboard rack / storage with lock during guest(s)'s stay
